The private's unit was about to be overrun when the order came down to "advance to the rear."
Making tracks back, he bumped into an officer and said, "Pardon me, major."
The officer stopped him and said, "can't you see that I am a colonel?"
"I am sorry, sir," the private said. "I didn't realize that I was this far back."
