Is this something that you are supposed to change in the templates?

Why would I have to change a template.. Why would setting rules for the site or a particular forum need a template change.. Why have the options to set it if you also have to change a template.. Makes no sense..
Why have a list of forum rules if they dont display what the rules are correctly?

Yeah, I agree this is a bug :)
I believe I heard something about this a while back, not sure..

I asked about this a few days ago and John told me I needed to go into the templates and change it, which made very little sense to me, too.
It *should* be set up to change automatically when you change the general and/or forum specific settings.
I plan on taking the forum rules off my templates, anyway, and moving the links to the smilies and vB code to the left of the text box, but it still *should* be automatic.

I agree that they should update automatically in a perfect world, but the technical difficulties make it almost impossible. With the amount of control that you have through the various user groups, how does the system determine some text to put in the who can post and who can post replies box? Or what options for editing are enabled. This difficulty is compounded by the fact that the code must be kept language independent.
I am still looking for a way to improve the situation on this front, so if anyone has any positive suggestions on this front, I would gladly welcome them.
Thanks,
John

John,
I was giving this some thought. Each forum has it's own line in the database, correct?
Well, columns for rules could be added and the "on" "off" be pulled as variables that could change per forum and if it's blank, it reverts to the main rules.
I could be way off on this cuz my knowledge of mySQL/PHP is limited, but it seems logical.

Hmmm.. After sifting through the various tables that store the variuos rules I see what ya mean from the technical side..
I did notice that you have a froum rule template choice for each forum so I see how you can write the rules yourself specific to the forum..
I wasn't thinking about the language issues either..
Template seems the logical way, good thing I dont have hundreds of forums to import.. hehehe.. ;)

I have 61 forums, so I went into all the places where the rules show and just deleted them. Everything is on everywhere, so why repeat it 10,000 times?
I did move the links for the smilies and vB code next to the post and edit boxes, though. I figgered we needed those and they're easier to see there.
