The PHP developers cookbook
IMHO the 3 best books out there.

Yes that book taught me what very little I know. Its great for newbies to php. I didn't know anything at all before that book.

i suggest kevins book to get started and Professional PHP 4 for more advanced features.

Yes, this book is awesome! Its written in such a way that even my dad could learn this stuff!
I got my copy today and have already compleated the first 6 chapters.

Really? I never liked the other php books i purchased. Does the sitepoint book deal with alot of mysql? I need to learn that annoying db!

to a degree. you need to understand the basic building blocks of web pages, basic table formatting etc to make much use of PHP. This is something that really should not take more than a day to get a basic grip of.

I have copy of that PHP Developer's Cookbook. It's good and there are many task oriented solutions.
