View Full Version : How long until version 3?

My account expires shortly, I was just wondering how long it will be until an RC or beta of 3.0 will be released? Need to know if I should renew now, or just wait

I'm confused...If you're going to renew anyway, why not just do it then? And so many people have asked this, it will be out sometime in the next month I believe...

If I renew new, and version 3 doesn't come out for another 8 months, that leaves me with 8 months with an account that I don't need to log into (since 2.2.2 is said to be pretty much the final 2.x release).

If I renew right when they do 3.0, I will be able to download all the updates as they come along... That's pretty important you know :)

If they plan on having 3.0 out right away, I don't see why I shouldn't just renew right away... Mostly it's curiosity really

I'm not sure when a RC will be released. But I've heard the final version should be released sometime in Q2 (anywhere from 1 to 4 months from now).

you have to wait for v2.2.3 to be released first dont you think? :)

GameCrash

Don't think 2.2.3 will have too much changes ;)

There have been a few threads around with the same content. The awnser was: Somewhere around/in q2/2002. Certainly not in March, and it will be gold when it is ready.

In a few days, version 2.2.3 will be released. It is always smart to upgrade to get some typo's and bugs fixed.

I'm guessing 2.2.3 will be released soon seeing that it's being used here already but it's not in the members area yet, i already checked ;).

2. If you renew now and vB 3 comes out in 2 months then you'll still be able to DL it with no extra cost.

To answer the original question no matter when you renew it gives you 365 days from the anniversary of your original vB license purchase, not from the day you purchase the renewal. So renewing now or in 6 months would not make a difference as far as how long it lasts.

tubedogg, i just renewed my license.

Thank you for purchasing an renewal for your owned license (number: xxx) - you will now be able to download software updates from the members area until 03-07-2003.

I think it should not work that way. This is because there are someone who might have purchased a license but did not use Vbulletin. A year might have passed and when he decided to use Vbulletin again, he wanted to renew but does this means he have to pay renewal fees for 2 years?

I still have my UBB license and i do wondered when the expiry date will be when i renew it now.

I completely agree - I'm not sure if it's been done on purpose or if it's simply a limitation in our systems. It may well get changed.

I was confused with Tubedogg post and when i saw your post, i thought your license expired on 7th March and you renewed it on the day it expires.

So now i assumed that you license has expired quite some time ago and you just did a renewal which entitles you to 1 full year access to membership.

If this has not been changed, I think Jelsoft should change this business practice. For one reason, paying for upgrades that one has not had the chance to utilize from the anniversary date of your purchase is simply unfair. Put the case that the one purchases a copy of the software--and is perfectly content with the features he or she has with that version of the product. If, for some reason, the user did not wish to download newer version(s), revision(s), or update(s) of the product at one point, but decides two years later to download the newer version, he or she should only pay for upgrades from the day he or she wishes to renew his or her subscription.

Penalizing a user to purchase two years of upgrades for not electing to download upgrades for a year is a very bad business practice. I do appreciate your concern, JamesUS; however, I hope the management of Jelsoft does see the problem here and rectifies their potential error. Of course, if this was some foresight error by the company--or programming error--I'm sure we can all forgive and forget this issue.

Can someone please verify this? I agree with aaronx. If I don't upgrade/download during that year, I don't think I should have to pay for 2 years licenses just to become current.

So,
I currently have untill dec 31st 2002 ...
next year no real reason to upgrade, just a few typo's & bugs, no real security .. then, somewhere ni november 2003, I read about the big security upgrade.. and i renew immediatly on the 21st, then I have from Nov. 21st 2003, till Nov. 21st 2004. Right? ..Right! Looks logical to me.

It isn't like the competition can hold a candle to the current vBulletin, anyway, let alone a better one!

Who, me, anxious?

Which, translated, probably means:

I can't get into beta.jelsoft.com. Is that [meaning the aforementioned website] a tease for us members? I hate teases -- especailly when I look at what appears to be the new vB3 Logo [which is probably referring to freddie's avatar].

In the past beta.jelsoft.com was used to provide an online beta/preview to vB 2 before release. At the moment it is used by us (developers and moderators) to develop, experiment on and learn the new features of vB 3. It is quite likely that it will be opened to the public again when vB 3 is nearly ready for a beta release.
