It would be good if webmasters and mods could check their PM from the admin panel without logging into the forums (so they will not activate a forum cookie session).

Sometime we don't want to read the new messages (or disturb the cookies) but only read our PMs...

This is a nice feature. I would love it.

I second that :)

If you log into the admin CP, even if you do not visit the forum, messages are still affected/marked as read.

Unfortunately, yes. Personally, I would like to see the ability to not make it activate your user session if you just visit the CP. If I want to work on the my site, I end up losing track of all the new activity from my last actual visit. It's annoying.

A lot of people have two separate users - one to login to the Admin CP and one as their posting identity. Solves that problem.

If logging into the admin cp affects your last-view cookie, then why does vB ask an admin to re-login when they go to the admin cp when they're already logged into the boards?

Maybe it's a silly question, but I'd be interested to know either way :)

That is done purely for security purposes. That way anyone wandering along to your computer which had your cookie saved couldn't access the admin CP, even though they could post as you on the forums.

I am one of them :)

I have one user account as admin, which is used for official forum stuff, and one for the general posting.

Or you could be like me... I simply disregard the entire new message marking system. Instead I remember the approximate time that I last visited the forums and look at anything newer than that.
