I have been reading a few post about members paying
hundreds of pounds a month or year for web hosting.

I just have a few questions about my web host.

I pay $65 a year and I get all the options I need
sql cgi php all you need to run vbulletin.

Well there must be something wrong you dont get
web hosting that cheap or all you guys woundt be
paying so much.

At my web host I never seen anything about bandwidth
I quess I will not be allowed a lot. But my web host is great
its never down and it fast to browse.

My vbulletin hasnt got alot of members its only been
up 2 weeks and I am just starting to get the word
out on the search engines and the like.

Do I have anything to worry about when I get a lot of traffic
will my web host ask me to cut back.

The only problem I had with my host was I was able to connect to the admin personal db using my user and pass via phpmyadmin
I dont think they were to pleased, but its there job to secure there own server.

Is this something to worry about as It did seem to me to be a lack of security which made me question there experiance
and proffesionalism.

You can visit my site to check speed and the like
its in my profile.

You're right, you don't get something for nothing. A lot of us are leery of real cheap offers because usually there is a direct correlation between the level of support, network uptime, security, etc., and the price. The higher the price, supposedly the better the service. Not always true but when you get real low prices it usually shows in service.

If you were able to connect to their database, that is the only sign you need - move and do so quickly. If they can't secure their own server why would you trust them with your site or your personal information (credit card # if applicable)? Not to mention all reputable hosts provide the amount of bandwidth you get with an account. Mainly for two reasons: first, it covers their behind legally, and second, if you need more you then you can purchase it upfront as opposed to after-the-fact (which is usually, though not always, more expensive - it's called bandwidth overage).

If you are looking for a host, we recommend VenturesOnline (http://www.venturesonline.com/). All but one or two of the vBulletin dev team/moderators are with them. They have reasonable prices and excellent support as well as excellent uptime.
