View Full Version : Is it possible to specify Moderator abilities?

Pre-sales question here: I've read through the rules, used the demo admin panel, etc., but for user groups I see that you can set whether or not members of that group can edit or delete their own posts, but no where do I see an option for editing or deleting OTHERS' posts. :-) Am I missing something? Or, does belonging to the moderator group automatically provide these functions somehow even when they're not specified? If that's the case, does that mean it would be impossible to have a moderator who is allowed to edit other peoples' posts, for example, but NOT be able to delete them? Or other such combinations?

Yes this is done individually for each Moderator and forum.

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Modify -> [Moderator name - edit]

Thanks...

So, moderators and admins can't actually mod other people's threads/posts until they're individually added to specific forums? Now, if you add a mod to the main category, can that moderator then mod in any main forum or sub-forum in that category?

Also, is there a way to add a moderator user group to a forum instead of individuallly adding each moderator by hand?

gotcha... thanks.

Another question... is it possible to set an option so that long url addresses don't get truncated but are instead displayed fully? Or, increase the number of characters allowed before the middle of the displayed url is zapped out?

Also,

Just trying to gather some idea as to the amount of bandwidth I'll be needing to run a board... Say, for an example, I'll have up to 50 users online at any given moment, an average of 15 or so at a time, and attachment uploads either limited to disabled. What sort of monthly bandwidth would you guys guess?

Also, what would a database that housed 1,000 members, with 1,000 threads, and around 10,000 posts of a small/medium paragraph each require as far as disk space goes?

Thanks!

YOu would have to modify the code to handle this.

We don't really give bandwidth estimates because each forum is very different from the others. My personal board uses 33 gigabytes a month with GZIP. It gets about 1.7 million page views a month and has over 10,000 members and close to 400,000 posts. Other smaller boards have chattier members so they have less members but more posts and use more bandwidth. While boards with 20-30 thousand members may not use as much because they use less graphics.

A system about the size you mention will take about 10-15 megabytes of storage space. My forum (size mentioned above) takes a little over 400 megabytes currently but I do allow image file attachments and have a heavily used PM system with generous limits.

You would control this in the same location as mentioned in the answer to the first question in this thread.

No, it's not there.

the user is not a Moderator anymore, but still in the Moderator Level, so his name will not appear with the forum moderators.
