Just curious, let's say your VB database is 500 megs. How much additional space is needed to back that up?

Backups will take more or less the same amount of space as the database size - so a backup of a 500mb database should take about 500 - 510mb.

But isn't the backed up file zipped up?

But isn't the backed up file zipped up? depends on how you made the backup
1. via vB admin backup = uncompressed
2. telnet/shell backup = uncompressed can compress it
3. phpmyadmin backup = uncompressed can compress it

Hi eva:
Thanks. I guess however you do it, the initial backup would always be uncompressed.
Upon compression, can you give me a rough idea of, say, how a 500 meg database would slim down to?
