I cant prune more than 10 days at a time or I get a timeout. And, if I go over 30 days then I get what I posted earlier. Kind of sucks.

I know it's been pointed out before, but I can't seem to find where, so I'll just ask.. I see some people are using Beyond Compare to keep track of the changes they've made. Is there others? Some that work kinda like a RVS? Let's take a timeout to see what people is using, because I need to get one of those, and would like to see which ones that work. :)

Yes I use Beyond Compare and it's very good. Though I've heard excellent things about Araxis Merge, which I'm going to try next time I do an upgrade (not upgrading to 2.2.2 myself as I'm not having any problems with 2.2.0).

The mass pruning issue should be a lot better than it was before.
Assuming there are no problems (and I'll let a developer comment on the mass pruning issue), then the final should be out in the next few days.

Do bugs go here?
I did a backup of my forum and then upgraded from 2.0.3 to 2.2.2 final.
After running the upgrade scripts, everything seemed fine on the forum. About an hour after the upgrade, I hit REFRESH on the forum and it showed the "not logged in/not registered" version of the Forum Home page. I typed in my login and pw at the bottom and hit Log In. No dice.
So I click "Forgot password" and have it mail my password to me. Instead of the 8 letter/digit password I had, it gave me what I'm guessing is the encrypted version of my pasword. Something like:
55c6af62866fbddccfc221ce42f57d7e
(a few digits changed to protect the innocent).
I guess I'll find out in the next few hours if 2.2.2 hosed all the passwords and I need to restore/reinstall.

So is Printthread.php the only php file that has been changed with this release?

Tue 29th Jan '02, 9:28pm
If you are having encrypted passwords emailed to you than that means you did not upload all of the files as you are required to do or you put them in the wrong place.

Tue 29th Jan '02, 11:11pm
Well, I just uploaded all the files in the ZIP file for 2.2.2 and now the whole thing is totally hosed. None of the php pages will display anything.
That's what I get for worrying about my hacks being undone. Looks like I'm going to be teaching myself "Beyond Compare" after this.
Guess it's time to tear it down to the ground and clear out the forums directory and reinstall vB and hope my backup I made earlier today (before the flummox) works.

Eeek - two above posts are a little scary - i'll wait for confirmation that they were fixed before I download this, since i'm in the same boat - running 2.03 and running fine but i'd like to get up to date eventually...
I'm not a PHP/SQL guru by any means, but if I do the database backup via the admin CP, and things go wrong, how do I get the backup restored? Is there a setting in vBulletin to do that???

When I go into phpMyAdmin, the database looks alright. It's just the front end that's not showing up.

Wed 30th Jan '02, 1:38am
It looks like you have to completely tear down the forum, delete the whole directory, then delete the mysql database (in my case, this means contacting my web host!), then reinstall vbulletin from scratch, then restore the backup.
Definately a total frickin nightmare.

Wed 30th Jan '02, 2:11am
Before I made the upgrade, I renamed my old admin folder to admin-old, and moved all of the php files into a backup folder. I just put everything back (rewriting over the upgrade files) and things are back to normal, thank goodness!
I'd still like feedback on the white screens.

What hacks did you have installed? When you uploaded the new files, any hacks to the various php scripts are replaced by the new script. Can you check your database with repair.php, in the extras folder? Upload repair.php to your public_html folder. Use this command line in your browser.
http://www.yoursite.com/forums/repair.php?check=1&iterations=4&forum=your_database_name
replace your_database_name with the name of your database
If the datbase is OK, most other issues can be sorted.

centris,
I have repair.php and global.php in my forums directory.
I get a white screen when I try
http://www.feldoncentral.com/forums/repair.php?check=1&iterations=4&forum={my database}
replacing {my database} with the actual name of the database.
The problem is, I ran the 3 update scripts without uploading the files first. Then I uploaded the files.

My apologies if this has been asked before, but how would one go about upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 when they've got vbPortal installed?
And I assume that upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 you'd have to re-edit all the php files to re-initialize any hacks installed on 2.2.1?

No!
vBulletin 2.2.2 is available for users who purchased it legally. Upon purchase they receive an E-mail with their vBulletin members area login/pass details. With that login/pass combination you can surf to www.vbulletin.com and click on the link 'members area' > enter the login and pass and you get an overview of your license details. There is a link on that page called 'download'. Click on it, and select vbulletin 2.2.2 in .php or .php3. That is the ONLY way you can get a full version 2.2.2 users from this forum are not authorized to give you their version.
If you HAVE purchased the vBulletin in the previous 12 months, then you can get vbulletin 2.2.2 from the members area. If you have purchased the vBulletin longer then 12 months ago, and you have an owned license, then you have to renew the license in order to get new updates ($30). For purchase details, follow the link in my signature and click on 'purchase' from the result page. If you do have an legal version, but no login/pass combination for the members area, please post a sales ticket (through vbulletin.com/sales)
I hope this clears a few things up!

not sure if this is a bug or a normal function but i dont think it happened in previous releases,
when someone chooses an avatar to upload they set it to use custom avatar, then when they browse for that avatar and click on it, it resets it from use custom avatar and chooses the first avatar in the list. the person not being aware of that hits ok to upload and it doesnt upload the avatar meant to be uploaded it sets it to the first avatar in the list of avatars on the site. no biggie for members that see it happen but confuses the heck out of my new members hehe.
if this is normal function or a already submitted bug sorry about this post.

Any dates, approximate or exact...? Should I wait for it or not?
31st march is the end of q2 2002, and around that time, it is due to be released, unless they need more time. :)
2.2.2 is worth it, upgrading to v3 will be very easy. What do you mean? wait for it?

fantom, I presume you are considering buying vBulletin.
There is no need to wait till version 3 before you purchase vBulletin.
The current vBulletin is already the best BBS you can ever find. You will not regret.
