new ICQ spam

I am getting this new ICQ spam that requires you to interact with it before it spams. How does that work? transcript:

How can I stop this? I get it once every 30 mins from Emma and her friends. For Unkonw Messages in the security box I have the yellow box selected for only accpept event from users on my contact list, but it does not work.

Any ideas?

done that but get this same spam from a different number each time. it must be some system that is faking it outside of ICQ. very annoying.

damn icq bots, i wake up with about 5 every mornin. :D

i always make sure to reply. then they know i'm there so they get my e-mail address from my icq profile so then i get e-mail spam so i can report them with spamcop and get their accounts shut down.

Haha. Me too, although mine is back up now. Try sending in a support ticket. That might help speed things up. ;)

You can set your preferences to not allow people not on your list to send you stuff, bam, SPAM stops instantly.

Click on the Main button, click Security & Privacy Permissions, click Messages (on the left) and click all of the check boxes.

I have a problem getting ICQ to work through my firewall, and I don't wish to bother with it to set it all straight.

But I do have Miranda running, a very small prog which uses the ICQ structure (without the annoying adds though), so I'm still available for chat. Got options set that basically ignore everything from unknown accounts, and I've not been spammed so far...
