I beleive he is refering to vb having an IRC channel. Only problem I can see assoicated with that is that I dont have IRC, I refuse it install it, and its ultimatly the worst program ever..
Do I have some sort of biased opinion on this prog, umm no.. thats it :)

Umm dude... IRC, in general, is a protocal :D
I think your talking about mIRC, which is a chat client there are many others avaiable on the net..... I actually prefer mIRC, but I've made an entire interface for it, so it would make being an Oper more easier...

BitchX is the only way to IRC (on *nix), or Klient (windows), or IRCle (mac).
When my home server gets up and running I can do two things:
Offer shell accounts (SSH) for running BitchX
And I can host an IRC server complete with a stats, quote and other stuff bot. It will probably take a week or two, but it would be fun no?
It would be hosted on a 1.5/3.5mbit cable connection which is pretty reliable. I've hosted many things on it before and never had bandwidth problems with it.

I think an IRC Vbulletin area would get filled up with pirates and hackers....

Hmm... better be able to get several IPs from your host, each IRCd needs to have its own dedicated IP.....

Why not just use dalnet and register a channel - why go to the trouble to make a server.
Besides; John or the mods have not contributed to this so it looks like its "unofficial".

mIRC is my single favorite program, ever. It's how I first experience the Internet, and I plan to use it till the day I die. :)

and mIRC is the windows app I hate the most :)
I was schooled on ircII on SunOS, Ultrix, and then Linux. Then one day along came mIRC and the rest of the world. The only thing that beats that is the day AOL let their users on to the web.

You could write an IRC Script that would make a bot have each person authenticate their license on connecting to the vBulletin IRC Channel. If they do not have the right license then a certain character could be placed by their name showing that their Un-Licensed. ;)

IIRC, I think vB.com has it's own IRC channel, but it's only for staff.
I think.

Yep, it is for staff. the DevCore network is open for everybody, and you can find some staff members there too, like scott, chen and from time to time (especially release days) kiers tend to jump in the channel.
