I know this must be a very big hack
Is this planned on next version of vBulletin?

Yes threaded view is planned as an option for vBulletin 3.

Will it be a global option, or individual for each user?

That has not been decided yet AFAIK.

I suppose you will be able to set it personally.

It will be interesting to see how it works. Most of the poeple on my board ignore the quote button and just post a new reply. I'm assuming that in threaded mode, quoted replies would extend the branch, while new reply would create a new branch. So for me, a threaded view would end up being one thread with a whole mess of repies under it, rather than a tree branch look. I'll have to emphasize the quote button more when threaded view is available.

Then can it be disabled period if it is offered? I dont like threaded views (it plain looks ugly and is harder to follow in a thread). Put it in the admin control panel as "able to view board in threaded view?" and set to NO by default? And if its set to no the option wont even appear in the users cp?

What bugs me a bout threaded views is people who keep on changing the titles of the thread (just like newsgroup postings) or they "just go off" on different tangents without realizing they were in a thread (just look at Gamespot forums and you will see how threaded views plain suck).

Yes, I second this!

It will definitely be possible to disable for all users - what is undecided as of yet is whether users can enable/disable it themselves. However, either way, admins will be able to choose whether it is offered or not.

If threaded view is implemented properly, and is user selectable (like a few other boards I've been too have), it'll make vBulletin an incredibly powerful product.
