Just like AIM, ICQ, etc., suggest adding one for Messenger in the next round.

The reason there isn't a button for MSN like the others is because Microsoft hasn't made the web integration for MSN Messenger public. It is currently only available on their own products.
The other three have enabled public web integration features which is what we are using.

The button could do a JavaScript alert with the user's MSN name or something. I think the point is more adding it to the profiles as a default like AIM etc.

Dear Wayne,
Do you happen to know when Micro$oft will make MSN integration public? The thing is..... a while back almost everybody was using ICQ. Nowadays MOST people on our forums use MSN...... :(
I do not have to explain the benefits of a MSN online-indicator on forums ofcourse. Having said that I believe there's even a BETTER option........:
I hope Jelsoft will consider a CHAT-function in VBulletin itself in the near future.
The thing is..... we run a website for patients who suffer from severe hairdiseases. If there's a MSN indicator (or ICQ for that matter) available.... people WILL find out your email-adres which you use with MSN or ICQ. Privacy is VERY important for our members. SO........ an integrated (meaning: only registered members can chat) chat-function in VBulletin would be a beautiful solution for this.
I know I brought this subject up a lot. (This will be the last... ;)) Thanks to replies from the VBteam I know that you are even looking into possibilities for a chat-function. I really really hope these posibilities become reality in the near future. An integrated chat-function (supported by Jelsoft) would be the IDEAL solution for a LOT of websites.
Thanx,
Grover.

As far as I know you can use MSN's web integration now if you purchase a license for Microsoft Passport to be used on your site.

This may be a vBulletin.org question, but what about the possibility of adding the capability of having a button without the web features?
For example, most people add a custom user field for MSN. Why not include the field by default and simply have a new template that functions like this: if the field is filled out by the user display this image, if not, leave it blank.
I know it wouldn't funtion like the others, but it would be something I think people would use.

I think yours may work better for me. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I had already created and integrated the custom field, so the only thing missing was the postbit portion and it appears that this is exactly what your hack does.
Thanks for the post and special thanks to vBulletin.com for allowing this discussion to continue and not locking it and asking us to move to vBulletin.org. :D
