Ok, the commercial is over,
I have heard some bad stories about this place,
the support is great(talked to them), etc. but I heard that they are really slow.
they say they have a direct connection to dual OC48's, and that should be frigin fast!!
but I have talked to 2 people, one personally hosted there, and the other has created websites that were hosted there, they both said it was slow...

do you have any info on this place?
Thanks,
Dennis

Looking at their site, it appears as if by "Unlimited Bandwidth", they really mean "un-monitored bandwidth". In other words, they won't track your domain's bandwidth usage until you start using too much of it; then they "will make recommendations for other packages that suit your needs in order to avoid interruption".

Surfing around their site it also seemed pretty slow.

Wow thanks!!!

although $35 was a little more than I wished to spend, but that that is a VERY good deal for $35 a month, I think I might just have to go with that!!

Thanks A LOT!!

FORGET Xeran

1. Too slow, yes, that's strange with uunet,
but reality is reality. I think they have
overcrowded 400mhz servers, probably
that's one of the reasons for slow sites

2. OC48? haha, what a lie

3. Huge amount of downtime and they
happily accept it, I was hosted there and
one day I received an e-mail from a tech
saying "sorry, your server has been down
for 7 hours - kernel panic, we are sorry.
Have a good day" ------- no comments.

4. They don't provide mailing lists
5. They don't provide Telnet/shell access
6. They don't provide PHP4
7. They don't provide subdomains
(well, yes, they provide them, $19 each!
and when you sign-up, 0 free subdomains!)
8. xeran control panel sux like hell
9. web-based shell? haha, that's not true
(I was hosted there)
10. tech support replies are SLOOOOOOOOOW
(8+ hours)

I don't like to trash other people but
those xeran guys are sleeping all day and
need a big horn to wake up.

well, they said they supported PHP4.... if that is not true, wouldn't that be false advertising?

Well, I think you should check out http://www.ultraspeedusa.com/ - you get 100Mb space, 8Gb bandwidth, PHP4.03pl1 and Zend Optimizer, 10 subdomains etc, for $16.95 a month... Excellent host - use it myself. Fast, and good support...

Another one to check out is http://www.hostrocket.com - you get 200 Mb, 10 Gb bandwidth, unlimited POP3, subdomains etc, for $9.95 a month !!! And it is not your average cheap hosting - these guys are good...

I am currently working on registering complaints about Xeran/MonsterDNS (same company) with the Better Business Bureau, South Carolina Attorney General, and other consumer agencies. Anyone who wishes to participate in my filing of complaints is invited to contact me at info@astralmatrix.net (info@astralmatrix.net).

In short: Xeran changed my main account password without telling me and I was unable to log into my control panel and email for several days. I submitted over 6 inquiries to the tech support department over the course of that time and received no responses. I cancelled that account with them as soon as I learned what had happened (I had to call their tech support line 3 times to find out that my password had been changed).

I had over $60 in referral commissions waiting to be paid to me for people I had referred to Xeran - I never received my money, and Xeran closed their referral program December 8. If you were part of the referral program and never received your money, PLEASE email me.

I requested that MonsterDNS cancel one of my two accounts, and they cancelled BOTH of my remaining accounts. They did not reinstate the account they accidentally deleted, and I received no apology. Here is the email reply that I got to my 2nd tech support inquiry, which was sent through their "resolve your issue that's over 24 hours old" department:

quote: Dear Desirae,
When we saw this email message from you;

"[Dec 27, 2003 10:36:26 PM]

Q: If you look under my name, Desirae Beberniss, you'll see that I have
two accounts that are still open under MonsterDNS's servers:

jackson500 (500jackson.com)
sehdesigns (shawnehalldesigns.com)

I don't know why you are having trouble finding my accounts. You guys
had this problem when I wanted to delete my astralmatrix.net account.
You really need to get your software or something working right.

My control panel loging is jackson500 and password is ******. My FTP
login is jackson5, password is *******. I want this account closed
immediately."

We canceled the two listed accounts.
Sincerely,
Ned
Best Regards,
Monster Support

I had registered the domain name (shawnehalldesigns.com) for the account that they "accidentally" deleted through MonsterDNS, which is a reseller for eNom, Inc. After 2 emails to MonsterDNS requesting that they edit my DNS information to point to the hosting account that I opened with another company, I have received no response and the changes have not been made yet. It's been 2 days. I am going to register a complaint with eNom, Inc. if I do not hear from MonsterDNS by tomorrow.

That is just too cheap. I *bet* that if you use anywhere near 55gb bandwidth, they will kick you off. I have heard of many hosting companys that have done this. They offer the extra bandwidth on the basis that they think you won't use all of it. (So you need to be careful with hosts like that. You ALWAYS get what you pay for at the end of the day)

That is always the case, pay peanuts and get monkies. For anyone in the UK, I'd recommend www.positive-internet.com (http://www.positive-internet.com), they're a tad more expensive than other people, but the service, speed and uptime is second to none.
