Before I buy Converting questions

I'm very impressed with what I have seen here and am anxious to get going with it. But I am deeply ingrained in UBB right now and quite leary about the conversion.

My major question is: exactly HOW to the importers work? Do they extract data from the existing files or do they actually change the existing UBB files?

Of course I would have a backup of my current UBB files, but I would like to understand the actually process before I dive into this.

PS Also any news as to when the latest UBB version convertor will be out? I will downgrade if I have to, but what a pain!

They just read the UBB data - they never change any of it :)

As for the UBB 6.1 convertor - I hope it will be ready soon - but we're not exactly sure of a date. Hopefully the person working on that will be able to post here and tell you more.
