Ok, if you haven't guessed, I'm desperate to get off the ubb...it's dying on me.

So i've installed this program, which I really like...but my import posts keeps barfing. Below find a smaple of the errors I get...

In the beginning I really didn\'t think that Bruce Arena would do anything productive with the team, but he has certainly proved me wrong. I was really impressed with the game against Brazil and the 2nd win against Germany in a short period of time. That shows that the US is steadily improving and can play well consistently. Anyone feel the same way?

One more thing. Was Lasitter on the Confederations Cup Team? I hope not, because he is one player that I just don\'t see having any talent, nevermind enough to play on the National Team.',1,0,0,'153.35.71.249',177

And I\"m glad it took him this long to get the head coaches job, because it gave him more leverage and he doesn\'t have the federation breathing down his back. No, I\'m not surprised by the results. I guess it came from growing up in a soccer and UVA family. Though, I\'m now a JMU alumnist.

No, Lassister wasn\'t on the team, enough with the quips about him having no talent. The fact is, as of now, no forward is better then him right now besides McBride and a healthy Wynalda. If not Lassister in the second forward slot, then WHO???',1,0,0,'216.164.237.74',1

Lassiter has some soccer skill, especially his speed is above average. Unfortunately, with his experience, there is no reason for him to fall into offside traps so often. That flaw alone is more than enough to counter-measure all his positive skill combined. In my opinion, he and Richie are good enough for MLS but not quite good for the national level.',1,0,0,'207.172.61.94',13b
,1),(NULL,8056,'',1714,'',FROM_UNIXTIME(933895140) ,'How can you say Donovan? First of all, we don\'t know if he can play professionally or not. Let him prove himself by scoring goals at that level first, before we start throwing him into the national team. I\'m sure BA knows this too. At least Lassiter has proven himself at the professional level. Don\'t get me wrong, I have confidence in Donovan\'s potential, but let him prove himself at one level first. Notice that I said, no one is better then Lassiter \"at this time\"',1,0,0,'152.163.204.54',1
,1),(NULL,8056,'',1629,'',FROM_UNIXTIME(933903000) ,'My reasoning is simple: when a team plays a friendly or a third-tier tournament, the result is hardly enough to justify its participation, so the team should always aim for some kind of developmental benefits.

We know what Lassiter does and doesn\'t do well. There\'s a small chance that he might drastically improve his ability to stay onside, just as there\'s a small chance that Kasey Keller or Mia Hamm or Don Garber might turn out to be the forward this team needs. But at some point that chance becomes so small that it\'s not worth wasting precious game time on hoping for.

In the unlikely worst case, Donovan might be such an unmitigated disaster that he\'d get pulled out with plenty of time to get Lassiter (or Stewart or Bravo) ready for WCQ. An even worse case would be for Donovan to lose confidence, but that\'s no more likely than it is in the Bundesliga. In an arguably unlikely best case, he\'d be so great that his contribution would already far surpass Lassiter\'s. In the more likely middle ground, he might start off shaky but with some flashes of brilliance, and the extra year or two would make him into a better player by 2002.

Jeez, maybe you didn\'t notice, but Brasil just played a whole senior tournament with a youth team (admittedly in their 20\'s, not their teens). The \"professional\" tag is a little bit of a red herring, since the US culture is not to play for a pro team until at least 17-18. And do you really think that Leverkusen is making worse decisions with their money than the US is, with nothing to lose but a friendly game or two?',1,0,0,'24.128.100.59',1
,1),(NULL,8056,'',563,'',FROM_UNIXTIME(933910560), 'Important point that you made about Brazil\'s ConCup team is that yes they were all young (Ronaldinho is only 19!), but more crucial is that they have all been developed by professional clubs since they were in their early teens. I would say that all of Brazil\'s players have had at least 2-3 yrs. of pro experience in Brazil. Landon Donovan, whatever his potential & ability, has yet to train in a pro environment much less play in actual matches on a regular basis. Once he has established himself at the club level, people can talk about bringing him into the senior nats set-up. Until then he should play for the youth national teams & gain experience at those levels. Consider this, Thierry Henry who scored 3 goals in the WC98 & has played for Monaco, Juventus, and now is with Arsenal, has been playing lately w/ France\'s Olympic squad because the French coaches feel he needs to work on certain aspects of his game at that level. One thing that I\'m sure o
,1),(NULL,8056,'',1629,'',FROM_UNIXTIME(933911580) ,'I\'m familiar with the Maradona story, but I\'m not sure what it\'s supposed to prove. IIRC Brasil had their own case in 1994 with a certain Ronaldo Nazário de Lima. So what? In each case the teams went on to win the World Cup anyway because of the other talent they had. The US isn\'t going to be in that position in 2002 with Donovan or without him.

Everyone seems to have a taboo about playing a player without pro experience, but please answer this question: what\'s the risk? That we\'d be humiliated by Jamaica, the Sportscenter anchors would make fun of soccer, and the sport would die a painful death? And a second question: How do you propose that we use the striker spot productively in these friendlies, then? Seeing if Wynalda can make it back might be one use. Josh Wolff might be another. But there will be plenty of friendlies, and I don\'t see any motivation to put players out there just to mark time.

His playing with the \"amature\" team is really a misnomer. The amatures are more of a reserve side. There are only two \"professional\" leagues in Germany - 1. & 2. Bundesliga - everything below that is \'Amature\'. The players however, are paid for playing. Donovan has done well in pre-season and training. I wouldn\'t be surprised if he gets a call up to the full side against a weak opponent later in the season and gets subbed in for the last few minutes of the game. I don\'t advocate throwing him into the US National mix at present. Let him get used to Germany & the professional atmosphere and call him up next year (after January 2000) after he has aclimated to Bayer Leverkusen and give him a shot.

If we put a Donovan or whomever in there and all they did was run around aimlessly for 90 minutes it might not have any adverse effect on a particular match. It would make a considerable difference if it were a back or midfielder running aimlessly around. Do I think Donovan would do this? No. But Lassiter should not be in the picture any more. How many chances are we going to give him? He\'s 30 which is way past any significant development. He\'s had 30+ caps, which to me is more than enough of a chance. Let\'s move on to younger true forwards.(as opposed to Cobi ever playing there again, although I think he\'s fine as a wing) I do agree with revelation\'s comment about waiting until until after January for Donovan (or Thorrington) so that they have gotten their feet wet playing in Bundesliga 2. Second as to the forward question; It will be really interesting to see in what order does Arena integrate these young forwards, which I hope starts this winter. Let\'s play \'em a lot and see what they got. One of the good traits about Arena is his ability to see potential before others do. So although we know the names of these young guys, who\'s Arena gonna push first?

Actually thinking about this a second (I was in a meeting) Arena will bring in Wynalda for two purposes:
1) To see if he\'s come back from surgery and to see if he\'s an improvement from what we have now. (If he comes back to his previous level, the answer will be yes.)
2) To give Arena a baseline to compare the young guys. Let\'s call it the Wynalda line. (I\'ve previously called it the Jaime Moreno line, because I\'ve felt that so far Arena has been comparing the forwards he\'s been using to Moreno. If they weren\'t as good as Jaime, they were gone. (I actually think Razov loses out here but time will tell if he gets another real crack at the team.) Wynalda, based on his history, does compare to Moreno, although in my opinion he isn\'t as good as Jaime.) The new guys have to be at least comparable to Wynalda to be seriously looked at over the winter. The others will just have to develop over time.',1,0,0,'216.26.2.23',1

I do admire your patriotism, guys, but you have to qualify first. Go Poland!!!

As for the \"G-E-R-M-A-N-Y\" guy...your right, without that nasty little US side in this tournament, you may pull off the big surprise...fd

I realize that being a Leeds supporter can lead one to be rather tight and devoid of a sense of humor, but try to identify sarcasm when you see it.

The intent of my remark was to point out that Germany has enough trouble beating an average side such as the US, never mind Europe\'s best. Notice I said \"...that nasty little US side.\" The selected adjectives were chosen to underline the sarcasm in my remark, not to proclaim false superiority (as many an England fan are known to do).

You\'d be surprised. In fact, I find it highly amusing that you would go on about sarcasm, wit, etc, when the exact message you were responding to was sarcastic in tone. Do you really think I believe Brazil and the U.S. are the two teams Germany are happy to avoid? If not, what reason would I make the statement other than in order to attempt wit or sarcasm.

As for the claim that \"many an England fan are known to proclaim false superiority,\" I\'d be very interested to know your basis for that statement. Do you know a significant number of England supporters, and base your claim on an overall impression you have gained while conversing with them? Or are you simply repeating something you may have read or come across in a footy mag or newspaper? Please understand that I am not being sarcastic, I simply am interested to know the basis for your statement.

BTW, please understand that things are a bit tight now, so I cannot forward your \"fee\" at this time.',1,0,0,'207.0.153.41',1

...yes, there are plenty of Brits in Boston and plenty of them are on predominantly British amature teams that routinely underestimate any team that is not Anglo in nature (with the exception of the lads on my team.)

Aside from that, I run into them in pubs all the time and find their analyses of games to be so ridiculously biased and discounting to any team not English, that I tend to let it in one ear and out the other.

Of course, this is merely a generalization, there are several British folks around who can objectively analyze a match. For the most part, I enjoy the company of English supporters, but the superiority complex does get a bit tiring after a while.
