seems that i had a prob with my server and the location that mysql is stored at is fubared to say the least. I had 3 forums on the server and 1 is gone. i have all the data in the /var/lib/mysql/databasename..... for 2 of the sites. i have lost the mysql.host .db and a few other files.

my question is this. if i recompile mysql into the same location can i create the databases over again and copy that data into the database folders under var/lib/mysql/database name??

any input on this is much appreciated.

the files i see are like the following

style.frm style.ISD style.ISM

thank you in advance.

no actually i had to run: safe_mysqld --skip-grant-tables &

This is only a temp fix to get it to work. i wanted to run back ups on the databases. so that i had atleast a current one there.

When I rebooted i would get the error: ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'

btw you have another pm at your site
