MySQL on different server question...

I was curious... has anyone actually used a vBulletin site running a MySQL database on a different server?

My question is will it handle the same load and have the same response that it would on the local server... or would it be slower?

It would be faster if the server is under heavy load, under a small load it would probably be slower.
