"Username already taken" weird error!?

Hi!

Here's the situation:

1) I set up VB3.8.1
2) I register admin as "JohnDoe"
3) I later change my mind and rename "JohnDoe" (userid:1) to "Staff"
4) I register, thru admin panel, username (userid:2) "JohnDoe" using (by mistake) the SAME email "Staff" is registered with.
5) VB complaints that username "JohnDoe" is using the same email than another user.

OK till here!

Now the weirdo:

6) I try to register via the VB "register" process.
7) Using "JohnDoe" as username, Vb reports in real time that username is already taken.
8) Entering the admin panel and checking/finding "JohnDoe" reports 0 users with that nick!

I don't get it!!

I tried to udpate counters->usernames and such but no luck!

3.8.1 out of the box, no hacks applied!


Any advice?

In AdminCP go to:

Vbulletin Options-->Vbulletin Options-->User Registration Options-->

Scroll down to Username Reuse Delay

Set to 0 to disable
