Usergroups - anyone have a fair few, how to you organize them?

Caveat - I already know that fewer usergroups are much easier to manage. :) I am looking at a situation where a fair number of different access groups is the goal of the forum.

If you have 20 or more usergroups, what experiences and heads-up would you pass along? How do you keep track of them and keep them organized?
