View Full Version : Blog Upload Problem

Hi,

Trying to get the blog module uploaded to my forum, but am a little confused

The blog manual says:

Upload the contents of the upload/ directory within the zip on top of your existing vBulletin directory. This is the directory with forumdisplay.php and many other files in it.

Does this mean upload the 'upload' directory and its sub directories, OR upload it's sub directories only (which would be the contents of the upload directory).

I tried uploading the 'upload' directory, but VBulletin cannot find the product-vbblog.xml file.

I cannot upload the 'contents' of the upload directory as it contains the directory 'admincp' and others which are already on the server for VBulletin! If I did, it would overwrite the VBulletin admincp directory, which I'm sure would mess up my VBulletin forum.

It's a bit frustrating when purchasing a £100 piece of software to find the documentation and installation instructions to be very unclear. I can see many other users get confised by things which would be relatively straight forward if the documentation was a little clearer.

Gripe over - very grateful if somebody could help me on this. :(

Upload all the contents of your Upload folder into the root of your vB install - overwriting everything. Any file that's already on the server NEEDS to be updated with the new one (which will include everything needed for your forum AND blog) hence why it's in the package.

The product-vbblog.xml will be on your local machine where you downloaded it - browse for that when you go to add the product.

Thanks Trevster,

Can I just make sure I've got this right. When I downloaded the blog add-on, what I actually downloaded was a new VBulliten package, with a blog included?

So, uploading will overwrite my VBulletin files and add the blog?

Just want to make sure I don't obliterate my forum when I upload!

Thanks

Mozzi:)

Further to my previous post, I've just checked the contents of 'admincp' on my server in the root folder of vbulletin, and it's got loads of files in it.

Yhe folder 'admincp' that is included in the blog download only contains 2 files:
blog_admin.php and blog_attachment.php

Surely if I overwrite my vbulletin 'admincp' with the blog 'admincp' it will mess my vbulletin forum up?

No, because the Blog files all have unique file names and they will not overwrite any of the vB files. Otherwise no one could ever install the Blog.

No, the Blog package includes the files needed for the Blogs only. If any of the forum files need amending for the blog to run (sorry, don't know if they do or don't off the top of my head) then they will be included too.

Folders aren't overwritten when uploading, just any files within the folders so don't worry about there being less files or same folder names.

Thanks Steve.

Had to upload the contents of each blog folder to the relevant vbulletin folder and it's working.

Thanks for your help ;)
