I have been running a little community for a few years now on the SMF forum software, and I am just about fed up with it and vBulletin looks like it's just what I need. I'm also planning to change my hosting provider as well. I currently use dreamhost, but the cpu usage on my forum is too much for them to handle. My forum isn't hugely popular, but I guess there might be 50 people on at once sometimes.
The thing is, I can't afford much. I've tried various advertising programs in the past and nothing really works all that well. Google ads has rejected my site many times if I try to sign up with them and they will never tell me the reason why. I make about $20 per month through my site. Now my goal isn't really to make any money, but rather just to be able to support my site without digging into my own pockets.
However if I have to pay for both a better server AND vbulletin, those costs start to add up and I don't know if I can manage it as my personal finances are especially tight at the moment. I have noticed that there are some hosts out there who advertise that you get vbulletin free with their hosting. One of these sounds like it might be ideal for me, if any of those hosts are any good that is. Does anyone have experience with any of these guys, or know if they might meet the needs of my site?
