I've noticed a recent new member sitting in the 'awaiting moderation' (COPPA) and have no idea why. Other new registrations have been fine.

Users are set to 'email activation' and are not moderated, though I do have set the COPPA validation option.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mark

That is where users wait for their email to be confirmed. It just also happens to be the same usergroup for COPPA.

I'm a little dubious of that answer because I have a seperate group for email confirmation, this is the current status new members.

Users Awaiting Email Confirmation 8

(COPPA) Users Awaiting Moderation 1

That means you should have one user in the Moderation queue, unless the user in that group is a true COPPA user, then you would have none to moderate.

Steve, yes I'm aware that I have 1 user in the COPPA registration queue, my query is why. Am I right thinking this is because they have set their birthday to Jan 2009 (by the looks of it), hence I need to approve them, correct?

If you know for a fact that the user is older than 13 you can move him into the proper group.

Check the birthday in the user profile in the ACP. Then check the IP using IPNetinfo. I have a lot of Chinese spammers that use either Jan 1, 2008 or Jan 1, 2009 as their birthday and they wind up in the COPPA que. If it's 2009 or 2008 they're either a month old or a year old as the case may be. Either way, it's a sure bet it's a spammer.

Cheers guys, the registeration looks legitimate as I use a question to stop spammers and it's worked a treat for a while now. I'm thinking he's simply used the wrong date and ended up in COPPA
