Hi there,

We're with Asmallorange (host) and unfortunately, we frequently exceed our maximum permitted MySQL connections:

Database error in vBulletin :

mysql_pconnect() [<a href='function.mysql-pconnect'>function.mysql-pconnect</a>]: User xxxxx_forum already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections
/home/xxxxx/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 311

MySQL Version :Any suggestions as to what we should do? I don't think they're likely to increase the max connections limit. And our forum isn't really busy enough to warrant moving to a VPS or dedicated server, nor would it cover the costs. Our cookie timeout is set to 1hr, which will obv make it look busier.

I'm not overly keen on moving away from Asmallorange. Their support is excellent, I've never dealt with a company which handles matters so promptly. Their technicians also go to great lengths in order to help us sort problems out, and on the few occasions where we experienced downtime, they credited our account with a free month. I'd call this excellent service. But it has got to the point where we need to do something about the problem quoted above.

So far, we've removed all unnecessary plugins, and we've also disabled many unnecessary features, but we still run into this problem frequently

Any suggestions as to what we should do? As you can probably guess, it's a bit of a dilemma for us.

Cheers

- Rich

This is a server/host issue. The server has maxed out the number of MySQL connections your host allows you to have. You can try turning persistent connections off in your config.php:

$config['MasterServer']['usepconnect'] = 0;

But if you still have problems after that, all you can do is ask your host to raise the maximum number of connections they allow.

Here is more info on this error:

What's their max connection anyway? If it's already set to high enough, then it's really time for you to upgrade to VPS. If not, then see if they have any semi-dedicated plans for you.

Hello Rich,

May be the hosting package you have cannot cope up with the no. of MySQL connections your forum has. I think its time to upgrade :)
