I am relatively new to vBulletin, though I have been an active member of a couple of forums.

I am looking to start a few forums of my own, and have a spare server (PIII, 512MB, 40Gig Raid 1) and am trying to figure out if it makes sense for me to host them out of my home.

I currently have a cable modem through AT&T and am not sure if they even offer static IP's. I was very unhappy with Qwest DSL when I had that, but I know that they offer business DSL meant for mid level site hosting with static IP's.

I would appreciate any opinions (preferably backed by experience) regarding hosting a bulletin board over DSL or Cable as opposed to using f5 or the like.

Thank you much,
Scott

i never done it this way so can't help much.. all i can say is make sure AT&T allows such hosting and that it ain't against their TOS and AUP policies to do so..

Well @home is going bankrupt but its being bought out by AT&T so it should be around untill they screw it up even more than it already is.........

And thats correct no servers, although as long as your not doing anything illegal they won't do anything to you, your capped at the server so as long as you keep it low profile they won't mess with you......
