View Full Version : Too dumb to understand parent/child styles

I hope I can ask this question correctly.

If I have a parent style with a child and I change the banner in the parent, will it always change in the style?

If I have a parent style and make changes to the FORUMHOME template in the child style, does that break all parent/child relationships or only future changes to the FORUMHOME template?

Thank you. I am so confused by parents/children.

If you make a modification to a template in the parent style, then this is also seen in any child style in which that template is not specifically customized.

If you make changes to a template in the child style, then changes that are made to the parent don't take effect anymore. While this only effects future changes, the only reason past changes are in place is because you used those as the base when editing.

Let me just make sure I understand.

So going forward NO changes made to the parent will show on the child or only changes to the one template?

No changes will be made only to the templates you've edited in the child style. Unmodified templates in the child style will still show changes made to the parent.
