- the installation of vBB is making me very nervous since the whole thing hinges on the successful import of UBB6.05 database which has been downgraded from UBB 6.1 beta 1.4.
The abundance of useful features in vBB plus the more stable database system is what is swinging me towards it.
vBB Lite works fine.
One thing which makes me curious is the similarity between vBB and UBB. One has GOT to have copied the other. bbtitle.jpg, on.gif, off.gif being 'behind the scenes' similarities aside from the obvious ones.
How come nobody has taken anyone else to court over this?

If you want to pay for installation, then that can be done when you purchase.
We don't yet offer paid import services but I'm sure some of the members here would be happy to do it for you if you can pay them. Otherwise, we'll always be around to support you if you have trouble.

As for the copyright issues - you can't copyright file names. UBB was first (4 years or so older than vB), but while the two scripts are similar from a user's perspective, the similarities end there. The backing code, HTML etc is completely unique so there is nothing to go to court about.

Outward appearances really mean nothing. There are about 50 different forum systems out there that look like UBB and vB. This doesn't mean they copied. It does mean they were probably inspired.

However you will find the code behind each product different and it is in this code that makes or breaks the product. Not the skin.

Interesting. I used to be a software developer, so I appreciate that the code can be totally different. But the presentation and functionality is so very similar.
Thanks for your comments.
