I'm currently running a vBulletin forum off of a dedicated server from LiquidWeb. They have been really great so far and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. We've had almost zero downtime and our server is fast.

My question is, can you run two vBulletin forums off of one dedicated server? I've heard a lot of people say that you should only run one instance of vB per server for performance reasons, but it's not going to be worth it for me to pay for a second dedicated package.

Our current forum has about 12,000 members but only 2,000 or so are active. Our average monthly bandwidth for that forum is 80 gigs.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

You should be fine running a second one. It's either that or giving up the dedicated and splitting into two VPS/

I don't think there should be any problems. You can host multiple websites as long as you have the resources intact. The main concern here would be the RAM and simultaneous MySQL connections.

As long as your server has the resources, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to.

At one point I had 9 vB forums running from my server, and all were very fast. No issues at all. This was on a dual Opteron 246 with 8 gigs of RAM.

Oh, and by the way, those weren't all small forums. One is in the top 1000 on big-boards, 2 others are close to being listed and the other two are sort of between the small and medium size. The other 4 forums were rather small and have since each been consolidated/merged into one of my other forums. Right now I have 5 vB forums running on that server.

just monitor your server load over a 48 hour period and as long as you don't notice any spikes, you'll be golden setting up as many forums as you want. Keep in mind, for every core/processor you have on your server, a corresponding load limit of up to 1.0 is "normal" i.e. if you have a single processor single core server, then a load of up to 1.0 is acceptable, Single processor dual core server, load of 2.0 is ok... and so forth.
