Hello,

I'm trying to import a vb DB for a test upgrade and we are upgrading it on another server.
If both databases are on the same server, I can use local host for the setting.. Where would I look for the info I should put in place of localhost if the source DB isn't on the same server as the forum I'm importing too?

thanks
-Brandon

no ideas in 5 hours :(
didn't think it was going to be a tough question..

ps.. I tried the url's IP address.. wouldn't this be the server IP?

thanks for the help

I have never seen a successful import when the source data is on another server. However you can try editing the appropriate source db info in ImpExConfig.php.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the reply

but I'm obviously editing the impexconfig file, maybe I didn't explain myself

I'm asking about the local host option for the source DB in the impexconfig file, I've tired the IP address, as well as local host. I've opened a support ticket with their host and I'm waiting to see if they know.
Why would it be an option if it isn't possible to successful import from another server?

is the ip address of the domain, the same as the ip address to the server?

I know I've done imports on godaddy hosting, and I've had to put some odd info in place of the localhost, I'm guessing this is similar.

Thanks for any help

As I said I have never seen a successful import with the source data being on a different server from vB. This would require configuring both servers to allow MySQL remote connections. And I seriously doubt that is something Godaddy would consider.

What you will eventually need to do is move that data to the server running vB.
