I'd like to add a left or right vertical sidebar to our forum for promotions, ads, main site navigation etc., and wondered if anyone had done this successfully with version 2?
I've tried very briefly with a simple table layout but it was difficult to get it to work for 800x600 screens without some of the forum columns wrapping or looking wrong. It would be nice to build this into the templates rather than use the headers/footers to avoid a full height vertical column. This forum has something like the effect

Any hints or tips as to what templates to tweak to make the display look sensible would be really useful.
