In quick reply, also in general reply "do not bump thread". Perhaps even as an option in the main thread when it is created - "do not allow new posts to bump the thread".

Any thoughts?

How could vB know if this was a 'bump' or a legitimate reply?

I think what he's saying is the option would make the reply not update the "last post time" for the thread, thus not bumping the thread up to the top of the forum.

This would basically mean a 'sort by thread start time' as a default option. What type of search or listing would this make sense for?

As I see it, this would be a sort of hybrid. If when posting a reply, you choose not to bump the thread with this reply, then the thread last post date/time would not be updated, thus not moving it up in the list of threads in the forum. But the threads would still be ordered by last post time. The only difference would be that non-bumping replies would not change the last post date/time for the thread. TBH, something like this is not really worth it.
