I have read (not sure where ) of people having "test forum's" are these just another version of vBulletin loaded onto you server for doing tests on before upgrading/modifying your "live forum"?
If this is the case I take it you just use your account/customer number from your "live forum" account. So long as it's not out for the public to use?
Sorry for being dumb :o

You are exactly correct.
If you have a valid Software license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to Jelsoft and the license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it via .htaccess. It must not be accessible by the general public.

Awesome Nick, many thanks.
I do have a question though. It states for the .htpasswd file:
.... it is advisable to store it outside the web root so that it is impossible to access it from the web.
In idiot speak what's that mean? :o

It means this:
AL your website files are stored inside a public_html folder. If you put a file in the directory above public_html it cannot be accessed via a URL. (I think) :p
