Check Forums & Moderators > Forum Permissions > select a forum that guests are posting in and the usergroup Unregistered Users > check permissions there - Cna Post Threads

I clicked through about 15 random forums and clicked on the New Thread button and got asked to Register everytime. So that seems to be setup correctly. I also clicked on a couple of thread to see if I could hit the Post Reply button and got asked to Register also. Then I couldn't do anymore cuz I got the message that I exceeded my maximum number of posts.

So, from my limited observation, things are setup fine. Maybe it's a specific forum you are having problems with?

(Also, your board is running 3.7, not 3.8, so you might want to ask to have this thread moved to the correct forum.)

hi,

I guess the OP (orginal poster) means the who's online view sometimes when you view that it says guests are posting but if they do not have permission they cannot post don't worry about it it shows also a little red image whic means "permission denied"

That is the bots, crawlers etc. Normally, you'll see about 5 attempts then a googlebot or yahooworm thing at the top of all five.

All I can think then is that you have some modification installed that is allowing that to happen. I'm not sure how you can figure that out unless you turn off your mods and see if it continues. Or, you might want to go read the modification threads and see if anyone else has noticed this sort of behavior with a particular modification installed. (Also, make sure all your modifications are up-to-date especially if there was an upgrade to it due to a security issue!)

Can it be previously deleted user who has made those post you are talking about

I read the help above and was able to make corrections so the unregistered members could not post. However, I'm at a total loss on how that just all of the sudden happened.

Anyone have any idea????

This happens on my site too even though I have it set so you have to register to post. We figured out that if you quote someone, it lets you reply as unregistered. I'm not sure why or how?

You are better off moderating all users so that they are forced to wait on you. That means manually approve members. You might have it on so people have to register to post but that's too easy and can cause problems. You need to stop this from happening.
By doing this go into
Admincp> vbulletin options (left handside menu) > usergroup manager > unregistered/guests > edit permissions > make sure that they can't post anything. If you have the can reply to posts clicked to yes please change that option to no.

Thanks for the help. I did have the permissions set to no for everything with the exception of 'Follow Forum Moderation Rules'. I changed that to no and then tested again and was still able to post not logged in.

Hmm...

Did you remember to save them? you must save them and then make sure that you have a look through the forum permissions in forum manager. If you have them as all yes then click that as all no.
