Hey guys.. first topic on here.. in a VERY long time ;)
Anywho.
I am curious to know what other people do. Do you personally delete the install directory completely? or do you just delete install.php?
For me, I delete the entire install directory out of old time habit (vBulletin is not the only forum software I use).

I delete it. I only upload it back when i have to do an upgrade.

I delete at least install.php and .htaccess to the dir, if I don't delete the whole dir.
If it's a forum where I might need tools.php or upgrade frequent, I will leave it, otherwise I just delete it.

I delete the whole thing. If I need parts of it back for some reason, it's easy enough to just drag/drop it back onto the server.

I just do the same as Floris. Delete install.php and place .htaccess on the directory along with admincp and includes. I delete the modcp directory as its pretty useless for me.

I delete the install directory, since I don't see a real point in keeping it.

One very good reason to keep it is if you have a problem and need support. Many of the files in that directory are necessary in order to troubleshoot and fix problems. I have seen many customers remove that directory then have to wait longer than would otherwise be necessary to get their problems fixed.

I just remove install.php, as once that's removed, the directory is of little use to anyone else.

I remove every file in ./install/ except for the four .xml files (adminhelp, style, language, and settings) and index.html.

Hmm, so like with my board, I only have 2 admins; there isn't really a need for the mod folder. So it would be okay to just delete the dir and change the $mod dir to the forum root, or ...?
Anyway, I just delete it. I have a 1Mb upload, so it's not like it takes that long for a dozen or so text files to be uploaded.

I point my mod directory to the Admin CP. On my test forum, its just me but it doesn't get much traffic at this time. Usually gets borked and wiped every six months anyway.
If the site were to grow for some reason and need actual moderators, I would just make them super moderators and give them access to the admin cp with no admin permissions.

I delete only install.php and init.php
init.php is very dangerous to stay in your root
I really need some files from install folder like: mysql-schema.php and default setting, style, language files. :)

Wow, busy man :P!Hmm. guess you could say that xD.
PS: Isn't it great, when you go into a shop, to buy something for your computer and you confuse the guys who are supposed to help by talking all techy to them? :D Then you end up with an "i don't know mate" :D

I've recently started my vBulletin forum, but right now I have the install.php file deleted, and the install directory password protected. I also have the includes, admincp and modcp folders password protected. I enabled password protection from my webhost control panel (DirectAdmin).

I move the install directory to my server side folder. Just incase I need it and don't have access to upload it. That way it's there if I ever need it along with the tools.

Me too delete just install.php from install* dir and protect with .htaccess, same for includes* admincp* and modcp*
Always done by when I use vBulletin, and with different user name and password, which change every 6 months along with the login password

You put .htaccess protection on the includes folder as well?
Yes... There isn't anything in that folder that needs to be accessed directly from a web browser.

Exactly the same as what I do.
