I adjusted all the settings, but they are still viewable by people outside the group.... Any recommendations?

Do you have screenshots of the group permissions and how the group was made?

I will take screen shots in a moment for you. The groups were made before the upgrade, and then after, they became visible to members that couldnt see them before. No "new groups" were created after the upgrade.

Since 3.8 is not supported, you should be posting this as a Bug Report (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?projectid=6).
Beta software is unsupported and you install beta versions at your own risk.

I am seeing the same behavior. However, I am not certain this is a bug. This may just be an issue of poor design.
Look at the documentation:
Public - open to everyone. There is no restriction on who can join or who can post messages to it
Invite Only - require an invitation to be sent to join them. Invitations can only be sent by the group creator or forum moderators and administrators. Invitations are sent by clicking 'Pending & Invited Members' at the bottom of the page for that individual group
Moderated - open to everyone to join but messages need to be moderated before they will appear. They are moderated by the group creator and the site moderators and administrators
It looks like non-members are only restricted from posting to Social Groups, not from Reading Social Groups. That is not at all what my forum members want. :(
Can someone from vBulletin please clarify which way an Invite Only group is supposed to work?

Make sure in all usergroup permissions under Social Group Permissions, that these are set to NO:
Can Always Post Messages
If enabled, the user will also be able to view private and invite only groups.
Can Always Post Message in Social Groups
If this is set to 'yes' the user will always be able to post messages in social groups, even when:
The social group is configured with 'Users must join to view the content'.
The user is not a member of the group.
Note: If the user has this permission, they will always be able to see the contents of groups configured with 'Invite Only' and 'Users must join to view the content'.
Can Always Create Discussions
If enabled, the user will also be able to view private and invite only groups.
Can Always Create Discussions in Social Groups
If this is set to 'yes' the user will be able to create new discussions in groups, even if:
The user is not a member of the group.
The group is configured with 'Must Join Group to View Content' option.
The group is configured with 'Only Owner Can Create New Discussions' option.
Note: If the user has this permission, they will always be able to see the contents of groups configured with 'Invite Only' and 'Users must join to view the content'.

Check the usergroup permissions. There is a option that lets them read private groups. Make sure this is set to no.

Can Always Post Messages
Can Always Create Discussions
Those are both set to No, but I am not talking about Posting Messages or Creating Discussions -- I am talking about Reading Messages.
There appears to be no Social Group permission option for Reading Messages.

Do you have the option for "Allow Users to create join-to-view groups" set to yes in the vB Social Groups options?

Hi All,
I have the same problem.
The only options that I have in the ACP are what are in the attachment below.
** Just looking through the ones in vB options **

I have just selected "Yes" to the following. I will PM the MOd who started the "Social Group" and he can try it out when is online Tomorrow.
Allow Join-to-View Groups
When set, this allows the creator of a group the option to only show contents (messages, pictures) of the group to members of that group (or Administrators and Moderators).

Do you have the option for "Allow Users to create join-to-view groups" set to yes in the vB AdminCP Options -> Social Groups Options?
Holy Balonley Batman! That's it!
Too bad I already announced the availability of private forums to my members.
Now I guess they will have both options.
With private forums, they get the familiar feature set of vBulletin forums. With private social groups, I don't have to manually create each usergroup and forum.

It is possible to make the discussions hidden, but we would like certain social groups hidden unless you are an invited member. Is that possible?

I am facing the same problem,
"Invite Only" & "Moderated" should be Private Social Groups, isn't it ? That means non-members of the group can not see the messages.

You need to make sure to check the box that says "Users must join to view the content" when you create the group.
