Is vBulletin compatible with only Apache or can you use Lighttpd or NgineX to serve it as well? I'm considering the move to a different host and was going to use NgineX but I wanted to be sure of that none of my sites would be broken.

Yes, you can use both Lighttpd and nginx with vBulletin.

I have run test sites on Nginx, Lighttpd, and Litespeed (free edition) without any major problems. I couldn't get my Google site map to work on either of the latter and I didn't try it yet on Nginx. All were/are compatible with Vbseo if you run that. I plan also to try Cherokee (http://www.cherokee-project.com/) sooner or later.

So far my preference is Nginx with php-fpm and that is likely where I will move all of my sites (not just my forums). Lighttpd is known to still have memory leaks and Litespeed is expensive if you want to run the Enterprise version.
