I am trying move my forum to another server and keep all of the posts and member info. I saw the post about this but I am not sure my situation is the same so I would like some help please.

I have a site that has a store, a forum and a gallery on a high CPU server with Blue Host. We have grown a lot in the last year and are running into CPU overages and slowdowns. I can’t afford a dedicated server ($200 to 300 a month) so I thought a temporary fix would be to move the forum and gallery to a different high CPU server ($20 a month.) I am wondering what would be the best way to move the forum so that it would be intact with all of the threads and posts that are in the original?

I have already changed the config.php and installed VB on the new server and now I need to know what I need to do to get the forum and member info from my old forum. The old forum is V 3.6.7 eith the 3.7.3 patch level 1 and the new install is 3.7.3. In the other post about moving a forum mention was made of “host to import the SQL file” could you please explain this.

Any help would be appreciated, we have had a sharp increase in traffic and the site is really dragging during the day so I want to get this done fast. This move also involves Photo Post which controls the gallery but I guess that is a question for another board.

Instructions for moving servers are in the online manual here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/moving_servers

Note: The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:

Backup:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/maintenance_ssh_backup

Restore:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/maintenance_ssh_restore

P.S. If you do not have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

MySQLDumper:
http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

MySQLHotxcopy:

Bigdump (restore only):

Steve, Thank you for your quick response, I read through the instructions and I am afraid they are beyond my capabilities, my skill set is more designing than webmastere. I was wondering, is it allowed to post a “Help Wanted” ad to find someone that could take care of this? I would rather not risk messing this up since the forum is very active and I do not want to inconvenience the members. Thanks again.

Please note that it is against the rules to solicit paid services on these forums:

You can try posting in the 'Requests for Paid Services' forum at vbulletin.org for help with this.
