If you host a fairly high traffic forum and are looking for an alternative to host it, read on. I don't know if it's appropriate to post this here or not. Hopefully I don't piss anyone off, but here goes.
I've been the admin/webmaster for www.rx7club.com since 1996. In that time the site has grown to be hugely popular with millions of pageviews per month. As a result we had to shell out for a dedicated server about 2 1/2 years ago. This setup served us well until our bandwidth started saturating our dedicated T1 line. So to pay for the upgrade to a 2 mb/sec line we also moved www.supraforums.com onto our server and split the bill with them. Now we're having the problem of running out of server resources. The next step is to upgrade the hardware and get a 3 mb/sec connection. But to do that we need another site to split the bill with. The server has been built, the specs are as follows:
Dual P III 1 ghz
Serverworks HE-SL chipset
2 gig ram
2 36 gig 10K rpm SCSI drives, each on it's own controller and mirrored
Win 2000 Server
As I said it would be on a 3 mb/sec connection, hosted in St Louis. The ISP has proved to be rock-solid for us for the past, and should continue to be so in the future. They just moved into their new facility, and have more bandwidth and anyone in West St Louis. You would be able to call them during business hours for support, or me personally during off hours.
Cost would be determinant on traffic, but to make it worth our while we would want a site that's willing to pay over $400/month with a setup fee approx to one month hosting. Last month our server moved almost 200 gig of data - any host would charge minimum $1000/month for that kind of bandwidth. We're not looking to profit off hosting someone. Just find one more site to split the bill so we can all get the server and connection that we need. And since we're sigining a one year contract, we would expect the same from you.
If you're interested contact me personally at turbo@nothnbut.net or call (314) 780-2792. Again, we're not doing this to profit. Just to make a killer dedicated setup feasible for a few sites.
Thanks,
Ryan Scott
