I'm just wondering why vbulletin has redirect pages for search results?

Like practically everybody else on the internet, I do searches using the internal search feature at various web sites and I also use the popular search engines daily. It seems like the only time I ever come across a redirect page in the middle of a search is when I'm using the vb or ubb search feature.

Let me follow up the message above with this:

The reason why I'm asking this question is not just because I'm curious, but because there seems to a user interface problem associated with this type of functionality.

For example, once you do a search and get the results, the logical thing to do if you don't get the results you're looking for is to hit the back button on your browser so you can refine your query. But since the redirect page was the page before the search results, the back button only takes you to the redirect page which in turn bounces you right back to the search results page you were trying to escape from.

There's got to be a way to streamline the search result process without the need of a redirect page stuck between the user and what he's looking for.

Unfortunately, that's the way our search works. Changing that would require changing the way the search is performed, and that is not an easy task.

On the redirect page, the results are gathered and stored, then on the final page they are simply displayed.

How about displaying the body of a modified searchintro template at the bottom of the results and/ or below the no results error. (Like Yahoo) The input used to start the search could also be in the field/s as it was entered earlier. If the search was not successful in any way the user could go straight to his/her search criteria and change it and start a new search without having to klick twice on the back button or click on the search button again. This is helpful when the search was done with a large input like "search and vbulletin and crappy". If the user wanted to change only one part of the search criteria he/she wouldn't need to retype it "search and vbulletin and fantastic" . They would only need to change it because it is all there on the results page. ;)
