I have two members that whenever they go to subscribe to a thread or contact any of the site mods or admins via email they get the following message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
I checked the permissions and everything is set just like everyone else on the board. So then I checked my users that are banned and they are not part of that group. So I am not sure what is going or what some of my options are.
Outside of that they have complete access to all the sites features and do not have a problem with anything else. Please help!

Check your Usergroup permissions and make sure that "This Usergroup is not a 'Banned' Group" is set to 'Yes' for the groups that you do NOT want banned.

Ok so I checked the user group permissions and everything is legit and ok. I also checked "View Banned User" under User in CP and that list did not match my list of Banned users found under user groups.
I had 13 registered users, members of my site that were banned by themselves according to the list under CP-->User-->View Banned User.
This list also did not match my list of banned users found under CP--> Usergroup--> Banned Users.
I went ahead and lifted the ban on the user that banned themselves, but I am still having the same issue. That they cannot contact me via the site or subscribe to a thread.

Ok so now the members that I took off the banned list now can not see any images on the site. I checked the usergroup permisions and everyhin is copesetic. So I do not know now?

Try logging in as one of these users to see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then the cause is somewhere on their end. It's impossible to know exactly what it is but some possibilities are: browsers, browser settings, Internet and security settings, ISP and/or cache issues, firewalls, ad-blockers, spyware, proxies and any other application that affects Internet content.

Ok so I did as suggested and it is definitely on my end. So I logged back in as the admin and took another look.
For some reason the users that I took off the CP-->Users-->View Banned Users all got sent back to users awaiting email conformation. So I manually placed them under registered users in the User Group Options. In turn, this once again puts them back into the CP-->Users-->View Banned Users. Banning them again taking away those privileges mentioned before.

Sorry, I don't understand your last message. Tis is pretty straight-forward. Either it's one of the settings already mentioned, or you have an add-on that is causing this.

Steve I appreciate your help and thank you. I do understand that it should be one of those settings mentioned. What I am saying is that when I change the permission to registered user. It automatically puts them into the Users Awaiting Conformation group and into the Banned users group. Not allowing giving them site access. Likewise when I go back in and lift the ban. It automatically places them back into users awaiting confirmation. Just a big circle.

Change the permission? No changing of any permissions would move someone from one usergroup to another in the default vB.

Steve I am not running any mods of any sorts. So in essence I am running the default VB. Outside of the updates you guys issue I have not done anything else. Somehow this is happening and I do not know how to fix it.
Any suggestions? Recommendations?
I am also still getting this message from registered users with the permision set corectly:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Oh, I had this issue, and it was a setting within the forum permissions. I had set everyone to "Cannot view Forum" and after i set them to view forum it was fixed.\

Then you will need to describe exactly what you are doing because this is either something I've already mentioned or it's a problem with a modification you made. There are no other options.

How about I start all over. It started out that a member contacted me regarding not being able to subscribe to a thread. He kept getting the following message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
So I then went in and looked at all the permissions and everything was set accordingly. I then took your recommendation "Made sure this Usergroup (registered users) is not a 'Banned' Group" and is set to 'Yes' for the groups that you do NOT want banned" This was all ok and checked out.
This is also when I noticed that under CP--Users--View Banned Users. I had some members that were listed as being banned. And where it says who banned them it has the banned member themselves listed. And this is what I found weird because I did not ban them. And right alongside these banned users (the good guys) is listed the spammers that I personally banned. But what is also weird is that when you go under CP-->User Groups-->User Group Manager under custom user groups where it shows the banned user group. These members (the good guys) are not listed at all. The only ones listed are the the spammers that I banned.
So now this is when it starts going in a circle. I go into each individual user profile of the banned members (the good guys) and under user group options I see that they are listed as users awaiting email conformation. And I have the permission for this group set so that it only grants them viewing privileges. So I manually switch this over to registered users and save.
But now this is where the problem is. When I do that it automatically puts them right back into the Banned Users list under CP-->Users-->View Banned Users. Once again taking away all privileges and reverting them back to Users Awaiting Email Conformation starting the whole process all over again.

That's a bit hard to follow. However it's still either everything I've posted up to now, an add-on, or possibly you have a runaway Promotion that is banning these members automatically.

Steve i am sorry I must be driving you absolutely nuts. Let’s try this!
Check your Usergroup permissions and make sure that "This Usergroup is not a 'Banned' Group" is set to 'Yes' for the groups that you do NOT want banned.
I did this and the user group is registered users and it is not a banned group. I do not know how it can only be affecting 12 users in this group out of 300 and banning them only.
Try logging in as one of these users to see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then the cause is somewhere on their end.
I did this and logged in under the users account. And still experienced the same problem.
Change the permission? No changing of any permissions would move someone from one usergroup to another in the default vB.
This is where it is taking them from banned members and assigning them into the Users awaiting Email Conformation usergroup. And when I revert them back to the registered users groups and save. It puts them right back into the banned members user group.
this is either something I've already mentioned or it's a problem with a modification you made. There are no other options.
Nope no mods or addons just the regular updates and patches that you guys issue.

Then you are doing something wrong. There is no way any of this would happen with the default vB code if you have followed all of my instruction. I really have no other suggestions. Sorry.

I actually had this happen to me about a year ago on this very forum. I kept receiving that same message even though I was assured that I was not banned.
I wish I could give you a solution to the problem, but in the end it eventually was sorted out, although I have no idea what anyone did to fix it.
Good luck with this one.
