When I use interent explorer browser and type my forum's URL I get the actual forum and see it setup like it properly should...
but when I use AOL 9.1 software and type my forum's URL in the browser I get my hostings startup panel that has nothing to do with my site in any way
what is the cause of this... I'm using Hostgator by the way

It would help if you posted your forum's URL, but, AOL sucks. I'm sorry, but all of their software is just plain awful.
For that matter, Internet Explorer is not too great either. Get Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/), if you can.
And if you post your URL, I'll be happy to check it and see if it's working as it should be.

Sigh, you need to make sure the current path is correct in your config.php file. If you knew you couldn't do this on your own why didn't you hire someone to help you?
