Why cant you Block out all the NON PAYIN members.??
For example For VBB HACKS and style templates and stuff ..
why couldnt it be forced to Payed members only? If anything this board is helping them out. anyways i just posted this cause i see alot of people wanting stuff that arent members.
Cheers.

Tweak, this is issue has been debated to death. I won't bother to outline them here; you can use the search funcitonality to find out.
However, I like to mention that John et al have implemented an excellent decision where legitimate users post their license numbers in their profile. This way, support requests (which are often responded to by moderators), can first to be checked if a particular user is a legit vB owner.

Excluding them completely may not be the best solution. For example, I have two co-admins on my board. Occasionally, one of them will stop by here...and since he can't enter the license info (it's already in my profile), he wouldn't receive support. If he was allowed in, people would know that he was from my board and that he did actually have a license.
I think what we're doing now is the best it's going to get; upon reading a thread, we can immediately know whether a person has entered his license info or not. We can then make a decision about whether or not to offer help.

Hi,
eeerm, I entered my license info and let my admin do the same ... is that of any problem if two people carry the same info?
We only use one public board, thus only one license.

I really have to start this discussion all over again, so I'm saying now that I'm sorry.
I think the best it could get is by letting US know whether the user has entered his info or not.
Cuss there are tons of helpful people here that help others, and most of them aren't moderators and probably won't be.
Maybe a better option would be an option in your options (wow so many option in one sentence), something like "Let others know my licence status", and if that's set to yes we'll see a button, saying YES he has a licence or NO he doesn't.
That way, we won't have to help people that set that option to no (for obvious reasons).
So now about 1700 people will jump at me saying it's invasion of privacy (that's what I've been told last time I brought this up).
But how is this invading one's privacy?
Letting others know he paid for vBulletin? Heck, he should be proud.
Letting others know he didn't pay for it? Well good for him, he shouldn't get any support whatsoever.

And I have another "idea".
You know how a lot of people say "I'm just helping my friend he has the info but won't give it to me"?
So let's, for argument's sake, say it's true.
The least you could require from him is to give the URL to his board (so you could verify it's really not his).
Now I know that the mods probably have some more important things to do than to check forums, but this can also be done by regular users.
And I also know that Jelsoft doesn't want to be too skeptic about this, and have to assume that all members are paying customers (like that saying "innocent until proved otherwise" or something like that).
But that's just my idea.

How do people know that?

Perhaps I missed it, but has there been some solution to the problem of more than one person associated with a board needind to obtain support?
