Variables in header

I was wondering how I would allow variables used in the "What's Going On" box to be displayed in the "header" template. Currently, they do not appear in the "header" template (i.e. $totalthreads, $totalposts, etc.) when I move them from the "FORUMHOME" template.

Is there away to allow the variables to be viewable in the "header" template?

use the front page develop content template which shows you the full and introduced changes that you want .

what does that even mean?

The header template does not allow the same variables to be used as the FORUMHOME template if thats what you mean. That's my issue.
