I am currently having vBulletin 3.7.1 PL1.

2 Questions :-

- Can I directly upgrade to vBulletin 3.7.2 without upgrading to vBulletin 3.7.1 PL2 ?

- Am I going to lose my customizations (settings, theme changes...) after upgrade to vBulletin 3.7.2 ? Or is it just a small release ?

1. Yes, as with any upgrade.

2. Not in this case as per the 3.7.2 announcement.

Can anyone please reply if you have upgraded from 3.7.1 PL1 to 3.7.2 ?

I downloaded 3.7.2 but it looks like a complete version with all files (instead of a patch).

So if I upload all those 3.7.2 files to my FTP, I am going to lose the changes (template changes, settings...) I made in 3.7.1. Right ?

How to upgrade to 3.7.2 without losing the changes I made in 3.7.1 ?

Please guide !!

PL2 doesn't require ALL the files. There were only like three or four files in specific folders. You downloaded the whole thing instead of your specific "patch".

I've got a custom board skin and going to 3.7.2 didn't mess it up much, it was easy to edit everything back to normal. The skin had a new release for 3.7.1 which messed up my board and had to revert but that's a whole different story.

Ok ! Let me be clear.

I was running 3.7.1 PL1

I just downloaded patch for 3.7.1 PL1 and uploaded those 5 files into respective folders in my FTP.

So now I am on 3.7.1 PL2.

Now I want to upgrade to 3.7.2 without losing any of my changes (Settings, Templates...).

How can I do that ?

That thread states.

Templates with Mandatory Changes Since 3.7.1
None! Templates with Non-Mandatory Changes Since 3.7.1

Your vBulletin installation will not be broken if you don't apply these changes, but small bugs may be fixed and new functionality may be available by applying these changes. We recommend you apply these changes in the same way that you apply mandatory changes.

There are changes, but they are not mandatory.

There are changes, but they are not mandatory. So, when uploading that 3.7.2 package in FTP, do I need to OVERWRITE only the files that have changed ? (Whatever files listed in that post)

Is that okay ? I mean, uploading only the below files into FTP and then running the UPGRADE script ?

As with any upgrade you need to upload ALL the files, except for the images directory and install.php.

As with any upgrade you need to upload ALL the files, except for the images directory and install.phpThen it will be almost like a new installation. Right ?

I mean, if I upload ALL the files to my FTP and replace the existing files of 3.7.1, then what will happen to custom changes done by me ?

Will I need to REDO all the style changes and settings I did before ?

By settings, I mean :-

Lets say, in my current vB 3.7.1, I changed default time zone to GMT + 5:30.

Then after this upgrade, will I need to again go to TimeZone Settings page and REDO this setting ? Or will it be intact ?

No, it is not like a new installation.

Upgrading will always overwrite any hacks or changes you made to the vB files. However it will not change any plug-in or product add-ons, although you may have to ask the authors of these add-ons if they are compatible with the latest version of vB.

Also upgrading will not overwrite custom templates. Nonetheless you may have to revert your custom templates and redo your changes depending on the template and the version you are upgrading from.

I am NOT using any add-ons. Just the default installation.

So you mean to say, I will need to REDO every setting like above after the upgrade ?

No, you do not have to redo any settings. This is just like any other upgrade. Custom settings are not overwritten.
