SPAM has only gotten worse and worse

Since upgrading to 3.7 spam on my forum has increased by a factor of 10. I used the akismet key but found that useless because it would filter out alot of spam, but it would also catch legitimate posts as well and the time it actually takes to read through the moderated posts is actually more then actually just responding to reported posts about spam.

Has anyone found any novel ways to fight the spam on a 3.7x forum ? I know there will be people jumping down my throat to tell me the spam has nothing to do with 3.7, but literaly within a week of upgrading i've been having massive spam problems.

Previously I was using a combo of the CAPCHA system and SirAdrians Q/A hack which worked really well.

Now with the new system i'm using only the Q/A system. I tried switching to CAPCHA and that yielded the same results unfortunatly.

So if anyone out there has found some nice novel and worthwhile way to fight spam, post it up for the entire community. I know the answer is out there. My next step is to ban the entire .cn address completly... ugh

Just do what you what you about to do and see how that goes, then remove from banned list and see after a few days or weeks if they return to your site. I would banned by ip first if your main registered users are from that prefix email.
