View Full Version : Users can't logout?

Running 3.7.0

Not sure if this started in this version or if we were having this problem before I upgraded.

If a user attempts to log out, they get the "All cookies cleared!" message and it shows them logged out, but if they navigate to any other forum page, they are shown as being logged in. This also happens with my administrator account.

I can confirm that this happens for me in both IE and Firefox, but it seems to be ok (as far as I can tell) in Safari.

I've had new several users complaining each day about this. The users reporting this use both Firefox and IE, but more are using Firefox. They seem to think this started when I upgraded from 3.6.8 to 3.7.0.

I have tried clearing cookies and clearing the cache. No luck. Could I have messed up the template that logs users out during the upgrade? Which template would do that?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

What's your cookie path?

What's your cookie path?

cookie path is "/"

I recently move the forum to a new server. I reset the cookie path after the move. I should have done it before.

I've written up instructions on my website on how to properly delete cookies from all the major browsers and I'm referring any member that has this problem to that write up. They all seem to be fine once they delete the old pre-move cookie.

Thank you!

BUMP

I'm bumping this up because the issue has not gone away like I thought. I have deleted all cookies from my browser and that seemed to fix the problem, but that fix was only temporary.

Does anyone have any other ideas why users can not log out? It shows a succesful log out, but as soon as they navigate to another screen, they are shown as being logged back in.

Have you made any template modifications or installed any add-ons? Those are the most likely culprits after the cookie domain and path.

Yes I have both template modifications and add-ons. Which templates should I look at and / or revert?

It's hard to say. Almost any template with javascript or other scripting added could cause this problem.
