We were running our site on Servage until recently when we moved to Fluidhosting. I have been very impressed with their service and speed of our site, but we are going through WAY too much bandwidth. In the past 4 days we've used 29.3 Gb, and we're only allowed 75 Gb a month.

Our site is getting about 78,000-150,000 hits per day.

Is this amount of bandwidth normal for a site our size (we're not that big a site, we have about 90 members per day, and 200 spiders per day):confused:

One other question - we have a few members who just leave themselves signed in all day - they are always listed as active members but they aren't actually doing anything on the site. Will that be running up our bandwidth too??

You might need check this section :

Try limit Guest permission view ! If not mistaken Vb have option where it will auto put your members into Guest/logoff with time setting u like . This way it will reduce server load .

Also check Add-ons u have now..Shout box , album add-on can create alot server loading .

Thank you for this link - that section has many useful articles, I'm looking forward to reading through them!!!

I've figured that 96% of our bandwidth is going to our chatbox, I've made some changes to the configuration and hopefully that will help!!

I've just seen this, and after talking to my host yesterday about my own bandwidth (used more every day in the last week than I do in the average month) it turned out to be FTP usage as I'm downloading some hefty files via FTP to clear some space on the server. It is possible that this could also be affecting others if there is an unexpected rise in bandwidth that you cant just put your finger on what is causing it so I've posted it here in case anyone else has the same issue.

You might need an overseller. Try hostgator

You seems to have a reasonably good traffic. Either an overseller as mentioned above, or a VPS :)
