I'm thinking of enabling the album feature on my site, but I'm working with limited diskspace. How much of an effect on diskspace would it be to allow about 700 members to upload say 10 pictures each? Anyone have any idea at all?
Thanks!:)

About 1.5GB

What size of pics are you basing that on, Andy?

Let's do some math.
Average filesize for a 600 x 600 jpg picture: 170k.
170k * 7000 pictures = approx. 1190000 kilobytes = 1162 MB = 1.2 Gigabytes.

But vb resizes them when they are uploaded. I have uploaded 2 MB pics and they only show as around 42 K in the directory. ;)

Pamela asked for a ballpark figure, I gave it too her. Obviously there are many factors. Max width/height, Allowed file formats, jpg quality settings etc.

Yes, but you scared the hell out of her. That ballpark isn't even that close.

Thank you everyone for responding. I appreciate it!
Good to know the math behind it and that because vBulletin shrinks the pictures, that it won't be all that bad.
Thanks again! :)
