Email settings

Hello,
I just moved my site to a VPS at KnownHost. It's working very well but I am completely new to virtual servers. The only problem I have so far is that email notifications of new posts and etc. were not working. I enabled the -f parameter in the AdminCP and they are working now. Other's tell me though that they do not have to do so. I must have something on the server set wrong for emails. Can anybody tell me what it might be?

vB uses the server for it's email. If there are problems, then the issue is either with the server itself or on the receiving end.
