change owner of a social group?

if the owner of a social group wants to leave it and hand it over to another member to own, is there a way to do that?

There is no option to do that. You may be able to change this directly in the database.

for example, could I remove the user from the group from the database? How exactly would I do that?

I suspect this would be the 'creatoruserid' field in the 'socialgroup' table.
